Live Mail is not that bad
Haven’t touched Hotmail for a long time after shift to Gmail. I opened the hotmail mailbox today to receive a confirmation from a website, where I registered using the hotmail ID, which I value no more.
Then I shifted the Hotmail into Live version just for fun. I tried Live Mail with my other Hotmail ID as soon as Live was launched. I did not like it at that time. The interface resembled Outlook and made me sick by reminding me of sitting in the office. The Ajax tech was new and interesting then, but sluggish and failed to function time and again… all the faults you can find in a newly launched product… I simply gave it up and deserted Hotmail as a whole.
Today when I picked it up again, I suddenly found that it was not that bad. The interface went smoothly and themes are OK. After turning off the “Preview Pane” (simulated Outlook layout) Ajax also speeds up. As a whole the service is OK.
Just OK, compared with Gmail. Firstly, shifting to Live provides 2G space, but my Gmail account has offered 2.8G and counting. Secondly, though Live provides a light colored design and looks cleaner, I can no longer stand the huge ad banner which takes up at least 1/5 of the screen. Actually I can no long bear any ad block, after using Gmail. Thirdly, Live’s interface and layout is not innovative at all. Again it reminds you again and again of the Outlook in your office, not a mailbox that belongs to yourself. What’s more, Live does not have “search” function. I deleted almost all emails in it so that my mails won’t look a mess. What’s even more, Live does not have tags. What’s even even more, no integrated messengers…What…What… What…
Consumers are particular about products and services. I am. It is OK if no one is better than you. But consumers will flee from you as soon as they find sth better has been born. And will not tolerate you any more. It is useless that you are better than yourself yesterday. You need to be the best today and tomorrow.
